Michelangelo

- Michelangelo was an architect, painter,engineer, sculptor, and a poet.
- He was born on March 6, 1475 in Caprese,Italy.

- He died on February 18, 1564 in Rome, Italy.
- He sculpted marble into masterpieces, like the Pieta and the statue of David.
- It shows Mary's sorrow as she cradles Christ's dead body on her knees.
- The statue of David is designed from Greek tradition.
- He designed the dome of St.Peter's Cathedral in Rome.
- It was a model for many structures built later, like the U.S. Capitol building in Washington D.C.
- One of his greatest projects was painting a huge mural on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in Rome.
- It took four years to complete.
- It shows the history of the world in the bible from the Creation to the Flood.
- He later wrote a poem detailing his experience:
- "My stomach is thrust toward my chin
My head leans right over onto my back...
